Too skimpy? I quit!

My school can't keep selling tickets to games if there's no benefit to the student. So let's show a little ya-ya and keep selling tickets. I knew there was a reason to be suspect of those cheery girls.

MOSCOW - After getting the wrong kind of national attention for the University of Idaho, the school's cheerleading coach has left her post.

Cassie Helm helped pick out the revealing cheerleading outfits, which the UI student newspaper reported were causing a stir on campus. The school ordered the cheerleaders to wear something less revealing - prompting a switch to baggy football jerseys.

Helm told the Lewiston Tribune that the skimpy outfits were actually a positive.

"The kids were real motivated to look as best as they could," she said . "When you walk out there and you feel so proud about what you're doing, that's the goal of the whole thing. The kids had the package."

That package included showing a large amount of skin around the mid-drift, and more cleavage than in previous uniforms.

Helm told the Tribune that members of the cheer squad could make changes to the uniform if they wanted.

"If a girl wanted 3 inches added to the skirt, then the girl got 3 inches added to the skirt," she said.

Helm disputed claims that members of the cheer squad were uncomfortable with the look. One member of the squad said the uniforms could have gone even further.

"We helped pick them out," Heidy Lyons said. "We wanted them with sparkles and all this stuff, but (Helm) toned them down."
