Valentine's Day

We've been baking cookies since Friday. Today the boys got to make cookies for themselves. We have delivered to our friends and our visiting teaching and home teaching families. The primary teachers got some as well as the neighbors.

Starting TODAY Nichole will stop eating candy or cookies even though this is what graces my countertops. Focus on the Health Nut bread instead.

We figured out our favorite sugar cookie recipes.

Nichole's Favorite from The Joy Of Cooking
3 1/4 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
20 Tb unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 Tb milk
2 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp lemon zest
Chill.  Cook at 375.

Ned's favorite from A Century of Mormon Cookery
4 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 lb butter (2 cubes)
1 tsp almond extract (we didn't have any so I upped the vanilla and added 1/8 tsp peppermint extract YUMMY!)
Chill.  Cook at 350

Finally painted cookies.

Mix together egg whites or egg yolks and water or google "paint cookies" to find lots of recipes.  We prefer to cook the cookies then paint them.

I spent a little extra time on these beauties.
I quite enjoy the red vampire eyes on the smiley face I made for Ned.

Thank you for the yummy cookies! They were a great end to my 'crummy' day.
Also- thank Reed for the McCall Elementary advertisement. It really is a great school!
